Tips To Keeping Your Backyard BBQ Pest Free

Keep Your Backyard BBQ Pest Free with the Following Tips

It is officially summer, which means most of us will be spending more time outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Did you know that 85% of individuals have claimed that they LOVE summer because it allows them to spend more time outside hosting¬†events like barbecues? The only downside — sometimes you get some uninvited guests, or should we say pests! Ants, yellowjackets, and flies are attracted to barbecue foods, and mosquitoes are active once the sun goes down. If you want to keep your guests happy during your outdoor activities and your backyard pest-free during your barbecues, we highly suggest the following tips.

1.) Since mosquitoes thrive during the dusk and dawn, be sure to have plenty of insect repellant if you are planning a barbecue before the sun sets! Citronella candles can help minimize their presence!

2.) Keep all of the food and beverages in coolers and containers.

3.) Be sure to clean up all spills, trash, and crumbs from the area to prevent unwanted guests from showing up (AKA ants!).

4.) Remove any source that has standing water in your yard. Water in your yard can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes!

5.) If you have screen doors, be sure to check for any damage or holes. If you have any, be sure to repair it before your guests come over. Also, be sure to remind guests to shut doors behind them when coming in and out of the house. This will help keep insects from getting inside.

6.) Make your yard inviting to birds by adding a bird feeder to help keep the pest control to a minimum!

7.) Be sure to keep your lawn well-maintained. Overgrown bushes and weeds can become a great home to insects, so keeping your landscape tidy will help keep them at bay.

8.) Landscape your lawn with plants such as: lavenders, marigolds, and chrysanthemums. These plants are known to keep insects like mosquitoes away!

No one should show up to a party uninvited, that is just proper etiquette! By taking the above tips into account, it should help to keep your outside parties as insect-free as possible!
